How to make stronger event applications.

Practical guidance for oversubscribed dinners, socials, and sponsor events.

Attend informative presentations and firm-specific events

Use workshops such as demystifying firm types or networking sessions to write more informed applications for dinners and sponsor evenings.

Write specific applications

If a paragraph could be pasted into an application for another firm unchanged, it is not specific enough. Strong applications show why a given practice area, deal, or culture genuinely matters to you.

Research recent deals and practice strengths

Mentioning a recent deal or recognised practice area is useful when you can explain why it interests you. Legal press, Chambers Student, Legal 500, and firm news pages can all help.

Show what makes you distinctive

Language ability, course structure, prior open days, or sustained interest in legal tech or CSR can all help you stand out without resorting to generic claims.

Respect deadlines and word counts

Late applications are not considered. A thoughtful twenty-minute application is often already enough to stand well above the average submission.
Next step

Check the term card before you apply

Use the current term card alongside this guidance so you know which events need applications and which do not.
Membership

Most application-based events sit within membership

Membership is the simplest route into sponsor evenings, socials, presentations, and application-based events.
